A Life of Voyaging

My name is Anthony Perez and in February 2016, I left my job and stepped into the unknown.

What began as a backpacking trip through Europe quickly turned into something much bigger, and that became a extensive journey exploring the world through culture, storytelling, and human connection. And what I thought would be a year of travel slowly evolved into a way of life.

Over the past decade, that journey has taken me across dozens of countries and into some of the most remote corners of the world — from the Greek Islands to the islands of Tokelau.

Along the way, travel stopped being about checking destinations off a list. Instead, it became about understanding places through the people who live there.

A Perez Voyages

A Perez Voyages began as a personal travel blog documenting the early years of this journey.

Over time, it evolved into something deeper — a platform for storytelling through photography, filmmaking, and writing.

Rather than focusing solely on travel guides, the work here often explores culture, identity, and everyday life in places that are rarely highlighted in global travel media.

Much of this work now centers around the Pacific Islands — a region rich with ocean traditions, indigenous knowledge, and powerful cultural heritage.

Chapters of the Voyage

Over time, I began to see this journey not just as travel, but as a story unfolding through chapters and arcs.

Each chapter represents a shift in perspective, direction, and purpose.

The Uncharted Wanderer (2016–2017)

The first chapter began with a leap into the unknown.

Europe was the starting point — wandering through cities, coastlines, and cultures with no clear roadmap other than curiosity.

This was the beginning of learning how to move through the world as a traveler.

A Pacific Voyager: One Ocean, One People (2017–Present)

Over time, the journey gravitated toward the Pacific Ocean.

Island cultures, ocean traditions, and the rhythm of life across Oceania created a deeper sense of connection that continues to shape the direction of this work today.

From Hawai‘i to American Samoa and beyond, the Pacific became both a destination and a teacher.

In 2025, that storytelling expanded from a humble title of a voyage, to a mission, and eventually into a nonprofit initiative called One Ocean, One People.

The mission is to document and amplify voices across the Pacific through photography, film, and visual storytelling.

From traditional voyaging to cultural arts like tapa down to language these stories help preserve and celebrate the heritage of Pacific communities while exploring the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.

This chapter represents the evolution of the journey from personal travel into a broader effort to support cultural storytelling and preservation across Oceania while growing personally through the knowledge I learn along the way.

Why I Trade My Comfort Zone for a Backpack

Let me be honest with you, travel, for me, has never really been about checking destinations off a list. It’s never been about the stamps in my passport or the perfect shot of a sunset (okay, maybe sometimes it’s about the sunset).

It’s trully about the quiet moments in between, the ones between camera shots and the record button.

It’s about sitting down with someone, listening to their story, and realizing that despite the ocean between us, we’re not that different after all.

The majority of my years on the road have been in the Pacific Islands—in places that don’t always make it into the guidebooks or the global headlines. And honestly? That’s kind of the point. These are communities rich with tradition, wisdom, and a way of life that has endured for centuries. They deserve more than just a passing glance.

Pacific Islands or Central Asia – the point is- the world is a classroom ready for the curious voyager to walk in learn, understand, and become. And in my case, my learning convert into storytelling that can essensially give back. So I show up with my camera and a curious soul and let the natural course of the voyage unfold. Some days are easy, while others are hard. But that’s the whole point, because at the end of the day travel teaches you about yourself too.

What You'll Find Here

While a travel blog yes, this website holds a balance of journaling light weight guide structure, such as

• Stories from a decade of travel
• Cultural insights from across the Pacific & Beyind
• Inside the world of short films and documentary projects
• Reflections and Inspiration from life on the road

Others simply capture moments along the journey, reminders that behind the camera and the stories is just another human trying to understand the world.

The Voyage Continues..

Travel has a way of reshaping how we see the world, and it’s truly done so for me in just ten years!

It teaches patience, humility, resilience, and respect for cultures and desinations different from our own.

That spirit of exploration and spark of curiosity continues to guide both A Perez Voyages and One Ocean, One People forward. Hell, each step on this life of voyaging only brings out a larger flame to keep going.

Hence why I’m proud to say, this truly is a Life of Voyaging

I’m grateful you’re here, and just know that your time on this blog supports the journey in ways you may not even realize.
