How do you feel about doing things alone?
For me this question seems irrelevant, as I do just about EVERYTHING alone. From movie, beach days, day drives, to a brewski at a new brewery like in the picture above.
I remember a time where it was a “life or death decision” to go see Transformers 2 ( I really wanted to see it!). And that was the first time I made a decision to do something alone that didn’t tag my partner or family along.
But now, with having landed in countries alone, hitchhiking alone, hiking alone, camping alone and making grand travel decisions in general alone, doing things alone is very much a lifestyle at this point. Most of the time I don’t realize it, but I enjoy it.
From a mental health standpoint, this goes down to the fact that, you are the best company you could ever have. Although my travels are an extreme case, the reality is, I can actually enjoy others company on a whole new level. That’s because, I am not dependent on theirs. It’s purely additional. So if you want to enjoy other people on a healthy level, why not start with YOU?
And even more importantly, I know exactly who’s company I’d prefer and who’s I wouldn’t because I fully understand what I want out of my own company. That’s just naturally how it works.
All I’m saying is, there is nothing wrong with desiring the company of others. But if you want true INDEPENDENCE in your own life,
you ALWAYS come first.
